"All of time and space is yours, Sarah Jane. Where would you like to go?"
"Anywhere." Sarah's doubtful her smile can get any brighter. "Absolutely anywhere."
He's shown her the universe before, but that was years ago. He's a different man now, and he wants to show her something he never has before. Something new. The Doctor plays with the controls for a moment, his mind racing to think of just the right place. It's a small red light that gives him the idea.
"Perfect," he mutters as he races around the console, flicking switches and pumping levers. The time rotter comes alive as his TARDIS hums with approval. They don't land anywhere but simply hover in space just at the edge of the vortex. He opens the door and holds out a hand for Sarah Jane.

Her attention switches to the door when it opens. After ruffling the wolf's hair, she walks over with one eyebrow raised in question.
"What is it, Doctor?"
"The birth of a cluster of stars," he explains, more simply.
It's so like the Doctor to just assume everyone is as much of a genius as he is.
When she finally lets herself look at the stars, she's quickly lost in the magnificence of the event. It's quite possibly the most beautiful thing she's every seen. Sarah Jane squeezes the Doctor's hand. "It's amazing."
"You joked earlier that you were tired of being human. But you are; wonderfully brilliantly human, with all that goes with it. And I wouldn't have it any other way." He speaks slowly, choosing his words with care.
"I'm not. Not human, not even close." Sometimes he thinks he's becoming less human the more time he spends on Earth, amoung the humans. "I said goodbye in Aberdeen and I left. I missed you, but I have to keep moving forward. There are things I have to do and things I can't do and a million things I can't explain even if I wanted to. But maybe I can show you, a little. And that's why I brought you here."
He turns a little, facing her instead of the stars. "New stars, new sights, new beginnings. I'm not who I was when we traveled together. He's in me, but he's only a part of the whole now, just as the dandy in velvet is a part of me and a part of him. You need to know that, all of that , to make a proper decision."
He doesn't ask the question, not yet. After all, if he doesn't ask she can't say no.
This is so much more. And as such requires her utmost attention. She tilts her head, lips quirking into a mildly amused and clearly confused grin.
"Doctor, do you honestly think I haven't considered that? That day you... well, that day you regenerated in front of me was one of the most dreadful days of my life. I can't ever forget it."
Her hand still in his, Sarah Jane moves hers gently to give the Doctor's a light squeeze. "Changing is as much a part of you as that constant need for companionship you have going is. I have every intention to stay with you, you know. No matter what. You're stuck with me again, whether you like it or not."
Because, the doubtful voice nagging in her head reminds her, he may not want her to keep travelling with him past this trip. He isn't the Doctor she knew. And, despite her confidence, that scares Sarah.
The most dreadful day. He is glad that the regeneration, as painful as it was, was a quieter one; glad she didn't have to see his fall or San Francisco or worse. Still, he is glad she understands at least that much. She knows change, even if she hasn't grasped how much has changed, both for him and the universe.
With his free hand he reaches up ad touches the back of his fingers to her cheek. "I'm delighted to be stuck with you, Sarah. Absolutely delighted."
It's strange, she decides, that it's been so long for him when it's only been a few months for her. A part of Sarah is still bitter that he left her, that she hadn't been there for any of this.
But then he touches her cheek and she smiles. Sarah places her hand on top of his and nods. "That makes two of us, Doctor. And, hopefully, Sawyer, doesn't mind much."
"Now we are three," he whispers softly. He looks to the star cluster, the exceleration of being in the vortex meaning tht the nebula is already expanding, each star an individual self now, yet still a part of the whole.
The Doctor moves his hand from her cheek to her shoulder and pulls her into an embrace. "Welcome home, Sarah."
Sarah hugs him back tightly, closing her eyes when she feels the threat of tears. "It's brilliant to be back, Doctor. I've missed this daft old place, to be honest."
"I think this place has missed you too." She's always had favourites, his TARDIS, along with people she barely tolerated. Fortunataly Sarah was in the former category.
"I'd offer you a jelly baby but I'm all out."
"I've never been entirely fond of those candies, Doctor." Sarah's smile turns impish. "I'd just accept them because you offered. How could I ever say no?"
Especially since jelly babies always seemed to be an offering of peace between them. Far much better than apologies.
He felt a bit like the thought a small Earth child might when they were told that Santa was not real.
"So I should cancel the plan I had to take you to the Jelly Baby centenial bash in 2025?" he asked with a teasing smile.
When his face lightens, she allows a smile to appear on her own. Sarah laughs and shakes her head. "I honestly hope you're joking about, Doctor. Suddenly I have this awful picture of people dressed up as giant jelly babies, dancing about."
It really is absolutely horrifying.
"I've always wondered about some of those dancers, though. Giant Jelly babies do look suspiciously like full grown Glarens." He's never bothered to check, because Glarens are a peaceful race and if it was them then they were simply on holiday and taking advantage of the celebration to blend in.
"We'll think of somewhere else," he says, already thinking of possibilities.
"Somewhere else sounds brilliant." It's said resolutely. No need to go to a jelly baby fest. She nods to the sight outside the door. "Although i don't know if you can beat this."
Sarah Jane giggles and nods eagerly. She hadn't meant it to be, but now that he had brought it up, oh it most certainly could be.
"Yes." Another nod. "Oh, it most certainly is, Doctor!"
"Should have stuck with robotic dogs," he mutters. Because K9 never gave him any problems. When Sawyer settles he absently scratches his ears.
"History or future?" he asks Sarah.
The animal has quickly won a place in her heart.
As for the Doctor, she raises an eyebrow. Sarah shakes her head. "Oh no you don't. My challenge, for you to prove it."
"1621," he says as he looks down at both their hands on Sawyer's head. "You might want to make a visit to the wardrobe."
"This better not be an excuse to get me in fancy dress, Doctor." She chuckles and scritching Sawyer's head, fingers accidentally brushing by the Doctor's. "I suppose I'll meet you back here in a few minutes then."
She smiles faintly at them both before leaving the console room.
"Something that will be more suited to being amoung the general population," he says just before she leaves the console room. He looks down at his own simple attire. "You and I, Sawyer, shall go just as we are."
The trip to the wardrobe doesn't take long. Even if parts of the TARDIS have changed, some routes have remained the same. Sarah smiles when she enters the familiar room, eying all the beautiful gowns and strange garments. It takes her some time, but finally she finds something that works.
It's a dark blue, with white lace. The hat seems to be leather. Sarah quickly ties up her hair into a bun, giggling as she does. It takes a while to properly assemble the whole outfit, what with the stiff bodice and farthingale, but she does.
Her boots stay on though. No one will notice them through all the layers of garment. Smiling at her reflection in the mirror, Sarah nods. This'll do.
Now to get the Doctor's approval.
When Sarah reenters the console room he looks at her just long enough to note that the blue dress she's wearing seems to suit this time period and hat, though silly looking, is probably the latest fashion. Her shoes, at least, are practical. "If you're ready London awaits."
He holds out a hand to her. Sawyer is already waiting at the door.
London during the time of the Puritains, when Sarah Jane is forced to where far too many layers than practical. She stares at him, brown eyes wide with disbelief.
"London," she mutters again, shaking her head. "Oh, this better be good, Doctor."
It is only then that Sarah accepts the offered hand and squeezes it tightly.
